The outcome of the battle:
The battle was considered a success for the allied powers assault on Germany. They had secured many bridges and roads that would help ground troops advance into Germany. Although they had failed to capture a few bridges they still managed to capture some important targets with great success.
Purpose of the battle:
This battle would help ground troops advance into Germany safely through all the bridge routes. Their mission was to pave the way for all the troops and punch a whole through Germany's first line of defense. It was considered to be the largest air raids during WW2. Bombings and parachuting continued for a long time before the ground forces could advance. Had the allies failed the remainder of the war would have been much harder on the ground forces and may have lasted much longer.
